  • Meta is also working on a multi-account feature
  • You'll soon be able to stay logged in to more than one account at the same time
  • You may also be able to add cover photos to your profile soon

WhatsApp has just added a new tab to its iPhone app.

The familiar Settings cog in the bottom right corner of your screen has been replaced with a new tab called You, which now displays your profile picture.

Despite the change in appearance, you can still access all your usual settings through this new tab. Your privacy controls, security options, and profile editing tools are all still there, just tucked behind your profile photo now.

The update is rolling out gradually to iPhone users, so you may not see it on your mobile quite yet. There has been no confirmation on when it will appear on Android devices.

This new feature could be teeing up other hotly-anticipated new releases for the Meta-owned chat app.

Meta has been working on a multi-account feature for quite some time, and this new 'You' tab could be paving the way for it.

Once it goes live, you'll be able to log into more than one WhatsApp account on the same device at the same time. This means you could have your personal chats and your work messages all in one place, without constantly logging in and out.

It's a design choice that you might recognise if you have multiple accounts on Instagram, which is also owned by Meta and features the same style.

Having your profile picture visible in the corner means you'll always know at a glance which account you're currently using. The tab will also let you switch between accounts once the feature becomes available.

In addition to the new You section, the eagle-eyed team over at WABetaInfo has also spotted a default cover photo at the top of the profile page in the works. This is a large header image that gives your profile a more personalised feel, similar to what you'd find on WhatsApp Business accounts or even your personal Facebook account.

This feature is currently only available to a limited number of users for testing, and there's a catch – you can't actually change the cover photo just yet. For now, everyone who has access will see the same default image.

WhatsApp will need to roll out a future update before you can swap it for your own personal picture, so you may need to sit tight until it's officially released.

WhatsApp has been busy releasing several new features this year. They just announced a new account dubbed Parent-Managed Accounts, where you can set up a supervised account for your child if they're under 13. You'll be able to decide who can message, ring, or video call your kid.

Your group chats have also been treated to three new capabilities — including new stickers, member tags, and special notifications.
