Liverpool remain vulnerable to the threat of losing star man Mo Salah even after the transfer deadline, a former Premier League star has warned.

The club have already rebuffed a £150m bid from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, but the gulf state outfit may yet test Liverpool’s resolve with an increased offer.

According to former England international Carlton Palmer, this could well be the case with the Saudi Pro League transfer window not closing until 7 September.

This comes a week after the transfer window closing for English clubs, with the deadline at 23:00 BST today.

“The Saudis are pushing hard to get Mo Salah, and that could be a problem for Jurgen Klopp”, Palmer told GB News.

“The transfer window will close today at 11pm in England, but it stays open for another week in Saudi.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

“This will give Jurgen Klopp no time to replace Salah. They’re talking upwards of £150m for Salah.

“World class players like Salah are hard to replace, so that is a major issue for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

“I happen to believe that Mo Salah is committed to Liverpool, but the owners might think that £150m for a player who is 31-year-old is good value.

“They might accept it.”

The Reds are insistent that the Egyptian international will stay and help the club in their fight to regain a Champions League position, having finished outside the top four spots in the Premier League last season.

Klopp said last week that Salah was “100 per cent committed” to the Anfield cause.

“The position remains the same. Absolutely no doubt about that. That’s how it is. Nothing else to say”, he said.

Salah has started all three of Liverpool’s games this season, winning the previous couple against Bournemouth and Newcastle.

The 31-year-old stormed off the pitch in frustration on the opening game of the season, having been substituted while the game against Chelsea was on a knife edge.

His attitude that day was a stark contrast to the jubilation he exhibited on Sunday, having assisted the winning goal in a late turnaround against Newcastle.

He added to his impressive goal contribution return for the Merseyside club when Darwin Nunez slammed home to secure a 2-1 victory on Tyneside, having slipped the ball through for the Uruguayan in the dying stages of a remarkable game.

Salah has accumulated 187 goals in 308 games for Liverpool, registering 76 assists.

The Egyptian remains Liverpool’s focal point, and losing him would be a significant blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool have already lost two players to the Saudi Pro League, with midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson opting to head to the Middle East.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard would also be awaiting Mo Salah in Saudi Arabia, should he opt to move, as he currently manages Al-Ettifaq FC.
