Princess Kate will spend the next 10 to 14 days in The London Clinic following the procedure

Royal commentator Jennie Bond has claimed Princess Kate will want to return to her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis "as soon as possible", after being admitted to hospital.

The Princess of Wales underwent an abdominal surgical procedure at The London Clinic hospital on Tuesday.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that the planned surgery was a success.

As a result, the Princess has been forced to postpone prior engagements until after Easter, when she is expected to be fully recovered.

Prince William has also postponed certain engagements to be by his wife's side in her recovery.

In a statement published on the Kensington Palace official Instagram page, the royal couple announced Kate's health update.

Kensington Palace announced today: "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.

"The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

Speaking to GB News, Jennie Bond admitted her "shock" at the announcement, and claimed her "jaw dropped" when the statement was published.

Bond suggested: "We're told it was a planned procedure, that it was an abdominal problem, that it is not cancer.

"But to be in hospital for two weeks and then to go recover for up to two or three months and have a very full diary cancelled, means it may have been planned, but not for a very long time."

Bond stated that it is Princess Kate's "absolute right" to keep her medical details private.

When asked by host Martin Daubney about the royal's recovery process, Bond highlighted that Princess Kate's main focus is her children.

Bond revealed: "I have no idea what it is she doesn't want us to know at this stage, but I do know that she will want to be back home with her family and her children as soon as possible.

"And so that makes it all more surprising that she may not be back home for a fortnight.

"Prince William is going to divide his time between looking after the children and being at his wife's bedside, and therefore he won't be carrying out public engagements either."
