Princess Eugenie moved into Frogmore Cottage two weeks ago

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have taken residence in Windsor following reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in the process of being evicted from the royal residence to make way for Prince Andrew.

However, in a fresh twist in the Frogmore saga, Eugenie was reportedly handed the keys to cottage two weeks ago and her cousin Prince Harry “couldn’t be happier”.

Jack has recently been offered a promotion at US-based firm Discovery Land Company, which will see him spending more time in America.

But sources say Eugenie, who is expecting her second child, is “determined to have the baby in the UK and bring up her children in England”.

Jack’s new role will involve him travelling between the UK, US and Portugal and according to one source, he and Eugenie will stay with Harry and Meghan in their Californian home whenever they are in the US.

“The Sussexes are disappointed by the move but couldn’t be happier that Eugenie and Jack will take it over. They have been staying there on and off for the past few years anyway,” the source told OK!.

“They went to see Harry and Meghan last month in California. They took over some small personal belongings left in the property. They were also helping to box up items at Frogmore to be shipped over to California.

“Andrew is delighted that his daughter will take over the property for the time being.”

Another source added that the princess and her family will be staying at Frogmore but on a temporary basis.

And the palace doesn’t have any longer-term plans for them to live there permanently.

Harry and Meghan put any negativity amid “Frogxit” behind them last Tuesday when they appeared on a date night in LA.

It is the first joint public appearance since the release of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare in January.

Previously, a spokesperson confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

The couple were given Frogmore Cottage by Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and renovated it at the cost of £2.4 million before moving in after their wedding in 2018.

According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the pair should not have been too shocked by the King’s decision to find new tenants.

She said: “They should have realised it was inevitable. They’ve hardly lived there [at Frogmore Cottage] – just six months in the whole time of the lease.”

The move comes as King Charles’ Coronation approaches which Bond says given the eviction and the fact the event falls on the same day as Archie’s fourth birthday, could give them the perfect “excuse” not to attend.

“I suspect they will find a way of not coming to the coronation… especially with the announcement about Frogmore,” she said.

“Harry wants apologies from William and his father. We have no idea whether those have been forthcoming, but I very much doubt it.”
