The Duke of York could be forced out of the Royal Lodge within months

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been left "distraught" as King Charles has slashed a pivotal grant that helps his brother upkeep his mansion.

King Charles is to slash the Duke’s annual £249,000 grant, leaving him unable to afford the Windsor home’s running costs without using his own money.

A source said: “It feels as though his brother wishes to evict him.”

They continued: “Andrew and Sarah are distraught they have been given such short notice.

“The Queen died only a few months ago.

“He’s not being explicitly kicked out but it’s expected that he won’t be able to afford the maintenance.

“Royal Lodge has a swimming pool, 98 acres of land and is already in need of some repair.”

However, the move is seen as King Charles telling his brother he must use his own money to maintain the property and his lifestyle.

A source told the Sun: “This is about Charles telling Andrew he can use his own money to pay for things.

“The same goes for other members of the family, such as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

“And while there is leniency with working members of the family, who have offices funded by the Sovereign Grant, there have been other examples.”

The Duke signed a 75-year lease for the Royal Lodge in 2003 for a one-off £1million.

Under the terms of the lease, Andrew was obliged to spend on recommended renovations.

Documents reveal the total paid on repairs has exceeded £7.5millon.
