GB News People’s Poll reveals Johnson the most popular PM since 2019 election

An exclusive poll for GB News has revealed that Boris Johnson is the most popular prime minister since the 2019 general election.

One in four Brits believe Johnson has been the best PM, beating Liz Truss and serving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

When asked to choose which Prime Minister has been the best since the 2019 general election, one in four Brits (26 per cent) say Boris Johnson has been the best Prime Minister, shows a nationally representative survey of British adults by British Polling Council (BPC) member People Polling, for GB News. Fifteen per cent say Rishi Sunak and only two per cent say Liz Truss. Twenty-one per cent prefer not to say and 36 per cent say don’t know.

Among Conservative voters, 52 per cent say Boris Johnson, 18 per cent say Rishi Sunak, and two per cent say Liz Truss.

Speaking about the polling, Professor Matt Goodwin described the results as “interesting,” adding that Johnson “has a phenomenal lead".

Goodwin told Emily Carver on GB News: “Johnson may be struggling among a certain section of the electorate. He’s certainly unpopular among Remainers, Londoners and so on.

“But actually among 2019 Conservatives he’s still seen by a long way as the best prime minister we’ve had since the 2019 general election.”

RSunak is facing growing pressure to get his party prepared and in fighting shape ahead of the next general election in around 18 months’ time.

National opinion polling puts Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party around 20 points ahead of Sunak’s Tories.

It’s a tough task for Sunak, as a slew of senior Tories plan to not contest their seat, including former chancellor Sajid Javid, Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross and former environment secretary George Eustice.

Elsewhere in the GB News People's Poll, Brits believe Labour would be just as good at managing Brexit as the Tories.

The findings are a blow for the Tory party which won the last general election on the pledge to "Get Brexit Done" and has vowed to stand up for the UK's interests in talks with the EU.

A poll by People’s Polling showed that 17 per cent of those surveyed have more trust in Labour to manage Brexit than the Conservative Party.

The survey of 1,229 suggests that just 16 per cent believe the Tories are the best party for the job and 40 per cent are unsure on which party to trust on Brexit.

The damning figures for the Conservative Party also reveal a lack of support on the voting front with the Tories holding just 21 per cent of the national vote, compared to 50 per cent for Labour.
