The 48-year-old financial analyst went on trial at the Old Bailey last week after being accused of making explosives.

The trial judge, Mr Justice Wall, discharged the jury on Monday. The judge revealed to the court that the defendant had been taken to hospital and put in an induced coma, as a result of the effects of coronavirus.

The judge adjourned the case to January 28 next year.

Bhatti, of Holland Close, Redhill, had denied two counts of possessing explosives, one count of making explosives and two counts of possessing articles for terrorist purposes.
