A MONTH of heavy rain: Met Office warns flooding and gales will batter Britain until DECEMBER

From October 27 to November 5, the Met Office said Brits can expect even more rain and showers over the coming days.

The south is expected to take the brunt of the battering, with the Met Office saying: “The heaviest rain is more likely across southern areas, with a risk of thundery showers, however the west and some of northeast may also experience prolonged spells of rain, again possibly heavy at times. Some drier and brighter conditions elsewhere, most likely the east.

“As the period progresses, conditions remain changeable, with high pressure most likely situated in the north, while the wettest conditions are most likely in the south and southwest, potentially bringing above-average rainfall through the remainder of the period.”

Temperatures are estimated to stay normal throughout.

As the month progresses, there appears to be no end to the dreary conditions.

From November 6 to November 20, the weather forecaster said: “The unsettled conditions of the past couple of weeks are likely to continue into the first week of this period. This means further rain in most areas, probably heaviest in the south or southwest.”

They said northern England and Scotland are likely to see further heavy rainfall, continuing on from the dreary weather regions have experienced due to Storm Babet.

“Strong winds are expected to be associated with the rain at times, with the ongoing risk of gales, fairly typical for this time of year,” the Met Office continued.

“Further into November, increasing spells of settled dry weather are a little more likely than before, especially in the north, and should these occur, winds could come from a more easterly direction, which could bring lower-than-average temperatures, but only a low risk for now.”

It comes after Storm Babet wreaked havoc across the UK over the weekend.

More than 500 flood alerts and warnings have been issued across Great Britain, with residents in parts of Scotland receiving evacuation orders.

A total of 470 severe flood warnings, flood warnings and flood alerts have been issued in England, the Environment Agency has said.

NetWeather’s Nick Finnis said: “Biblical scenes of flooding developing across parts of eastern Scotland, following over a month’s worth of rain falling in less than 24 hours.

“Around 300 residents in the town of Brechin in Angus have been ordered to evacuate as flood defences have failed as the heavily swollen River Esk bursts its banks.

“Residents are being rescued by boat in the town this morning.”
