German fighter jets were scrambled overnight after Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack in Ukraine - less than a mile from Nato's border.
Two German-owned Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft stationed at the Mihail Kogalniceanu air base in Romania were sent to "monitor the air situation", the Romanian Ministry of Defence confirmed.
After an assessment, it was confirmed that no aircraft or projectiles had crossed the Nato border from Russia.

The Russian missile and drone attacks come just days after talks were held between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
Despite negotiations over a peace deal inching closer, Russian forces have continued to bombard Ukraine from the skies - including an overnight attack on port and oil facilities in the southern Odesa region.
Attacks were also carried in the vicinity of the Danube River, which lies on the border between Ukraine and Romania, a Nato allied county.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday morning that over 60 missiles and drone were fired into Ukraine during the night, including an attack on the north east region of Sumy which injured 14 people.

However, Ukraine's Air Force later increased the reported number of drone strikes to have taken place overnight to 93 and added that 62 of these were intercepted, along with a ballistic missile.
Mr Zelensky said: "A family with wounded children - five months, four years, and six years old - sought assistance after the attack.
"The rescue operation continues.
"All of these are demonstrative strikes that only confirm the need to put pressure on Moscow, the need to impose new sanctions and tariffs until diplomacy is fully effective."

"We need strong security guarantees to ensure a truly reliable and lasting peace."
It comes after Mr Trump expressed fears that Vladimir Putin may not be prepared to strike a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
The US President highlighted that the conflict would be a "tough one" to solve and said: "We're going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks.
"It's possible that he doesn't want to make a deal."
However, he warned that Mr Putin, 72, would face a "rough situation" should he not negotiate a deal for peace.
The Russian premier indicated that he would be "open" to a meeting with Mr Zelensky earlier this week, but Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov played down the idea the following day.
Mr Lavrov said that direct talks would have to be arranged "gradually... starting with the expert level and thereafter going through all the required steps".
