The group have caused havoc at Wimbledon and The Ashes among other tournaments in recent times

Just Stop Oil don't plan on gatecrashing The Open this week, according to R&A chief Martin Slumbers.

The group have been continuing their protests in London on Wednesday, causing disruption for members of the public in the proces.

JSO have recently managed stunts at Wimbledon and The Ashes, consequently putting organisers of big sporting and non-sporting events on red alert.

England cricketer Jonny Bairstow even went as far to carry one individual off the field of play after they'd thrown orange paint and caused a delay.

But after receiving a 'very credible threat' last year, Slumbers has now insisted the group don't plan to disrupt The Open this week.

"We have had no direct intelligence," he said when asked if he'd received any word of possible protests.

"There was direct intelligence last year and most people in this room don't know The Open was targeted last year.

"We had a very credible threat which was reported to us that certain players in the field were going to be targeted by environmental activists.

"We have significant security procedures in place, we work with law enforcement agencies and we will wait and see what happens.

"We have advised the players please don't get involved and I stand by that.

"Beyond that I think security matters I need to keep confidential."

JSO have been widely criticised for their antics, especially given how they've targeted members of the public above all else.

There have been disruptions on Wednesday, with TV presenter Chris Kamara caught up in the chaos.

And golfer Jon Rahm recently made it clear he wouldn't tolerate any of their antics as he plots a way to glory.

"I do have a reputation, so I hope they don't catch me on a bad hole,' he said.

"I know they're going for an impact.

"I saw a couple of them intervening in Wimbledon, and obviously this looks like it could be a perfect spot. But we have nothing to do with it.

"You don't want to disrupt play, which they're trying, so if it happens where I'm at, I'm obviously going to try to clean up as quickly as possible so we can resume play."

GB News' very own Jacob Rees-Mogg was recently involved in a confrontation with a member of the group live on air.

Dr Kush Naker grilled the Conservative MP, saying: “Jacob, how much money do you have invested in oil and gas?”

But Rees-Mogg shut down his comments bluntly, retorting with: “Me? I don’t have any money invested in oil and gas.

"Your cheap tricks are just wrong. That was almost as silly as your protest at Lord’s.”

The echo-warrior refused to back down, saying: “It was widely reported that Somerset Capital has money in Russian gas companies, that you took £600,000 in dividends from.”

Yet Rees-Mogg again produced a brilliant reply.

“Just because things are reported doesn’t make them true," he said.

"Somerset Capital does not invest its own money. It has clients.

“I don’t have any money in Russian oil or gas, that was a lie, very nice to have you, continue your foolish protests, you make the argument for net zero worse.

“Your fanatics do so much damage to a case that has some logic behind it in some other areas."
