The Welsh side are determined to secure promotion to the Premier League this season

Wrexham are still pushing to bring in Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson as part of their ambitious bid for promotion.

The 31-year-old, who can operate both at left-back and centre-half, is reportedly keen on the move.

And Phil Parkinson’s side are eager to secure him for what they hope will be a cut-price fee.

Club officials see Robinson as a significant addition to a squad already bolstered by experienced Championship signings like Josh Windass, Ryan Hardie and Conor Coady.

Wrexham are still pushing to bring in Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson as part of their ambitious bid for promotion

Negotiations between the two clubs progressed well last week before Sheffield United’s sale of Anel Ahmedhodzic to Feyenoord created a temporary pause in discussions.

While that deal has not ended Wrexham’s hopes, the Blades’ recruitment struggles - despite a healthy cash injection from recent sales - have made them reluctant to let another senior defender leave without lining up replacements.

According to The Sun, United's new owners are divided over whether to prioritise developing young talent or targeting experienced loan signings.

That uncertainty has, consequently, slowed movement in the transfer market.

Robinson’s profile fits perfectly with Wrexham’s more direct approach to squad building.

Since joining Sheffield United from Nottingham Forest in 2020, he has racked up nearly 160 appearances and been a reliable presence in both promotion and Premier League campaigns.

Wrexham want Jack Robinson to become the latest Championship star to sign for the club this summer

His football journey began in Liverpool’s academy, where in 2010 he became the youngest player in the club’s history to make a senior appearance at just 16.

Since then, he has represented Wolves, Blackpool, QPR and Huddersfield before establishing himself with the Blades.

For Wrexham’s Hollywood-backed owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Championship experience is now seen as essential.

That point was underlined in their opening fixture of the season on Saturday, when the Red Dragons’ debut at this level ended in late heartbreak.

After leading for most of the match away at Southampton, they were undone in stoppage time.

Ryan Manning drew Southampton level with a brilliant free-kick in the 90th minute, with Jack Stephens then scoring the winner shortly afterwards.
