Sarah, the Duchess of York, followed the lead of the Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales by issuing her own statement.

"Eighty years have passed since VJ Day, yet the bravery, endurance and sacrifice of those who served remain etched in our hearts," Fergie began in her
"Our nation’s gratitude is everlasting, for they gifted us the tomorrow they would never see.
"May their memory be cherished and their legacy never fade," she concluded.
Fergie accompanied the social media message with a compilation of pictures from VJ Day in 1945.

An image of jubilant children holding up newspapers declaring the war’s end were also featured in the collage.
Fergie’s comments came after King Charles addressed the nation early on Friday morning, echoing the audio broadcast delivered by his grandfather, King George VI.
In his heartfelt address, the King said four short words after six long years of bloodshed carried "a potent mix of relief, celebration and sorrow."

He honoured the sacrifices of the "Forgotten Army" in Southeast Asia and the suffering of prisoners of war and civilians.
The King celebrated the collaboration between different nations that achieved victory, finding a common cause "across vast distances, faiths and cultural divides".
His Majesty added that this cooperation demonstrated that: "In times of war and in times of peace, the greatest weapons of all are not the arms you bear but the arms you link."
While not present for in-person commemorations on Friday, the Prince and Princess of Wales also issued their own statement.

"Today, on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served," they wrote on social media.
"Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific.
"We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful.
"Lest we forget. W & C," the couple signed off.
