Jamie Carragher appeared to take exception with the way Arsenal players celebrated after their 3-1 win over Liverpool.

Martin Odegaard has defended the way he and his Arsenal team-mates jubilantly celebrated their 3-1 win over Arsenal after Jamie Carragher's criticism.

The Gunners moved to within two points of league leaders Liverpool as they pulled off an impressive victory.

Arsenal players lapped up the result on the pitch with the home crowd celebrating in the stands.

Odegaard was seen having some fun with a club photographer, Stuart MacFarlane, at the end of the game, taking his camera and taking pictures with him.

Carragher was unimpressed by the celebrations and felt Arsenal over did it at the end.

He moaned: "Just get down the tunnel. You've won a game, three points, you've been brilliant.

"Back in the title race, get down the tunnel. I'm serious, honestly."

Carragher then posted a clip of Odegaard with the Arsenal club photographer to X, quoting Neil Warnock's famous line: "By all means enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!"

Ex-Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft didn't see the funny side of Carragher's post, replying: "Come on @Carra23. Let Martin show his passion! Also on the pitch. Let him have this moment with his mates at Arsenal like @Stuart_PhotoAFC.

"Nothing to do with being disciplined or not. Football could do with more people expressing their love for the game. I know you deep inside agree with me, mate."

Now Odegaard has defended his celebrations, insisting footballers should be able to enjoy moments like their win over Liverpool.

“I think everyone who loves football, they know how much it means to win this game," he said.

“And if you are not allowed to celebrate when you win a game, when are you allowed to celebrate?

"We are happy with the win and we will stay humble. We keep working hard and we prepare for the next one but of course you have to be happy when you win.”

Odegaard was also asked about his celebrations with MacFarlane.

The Norwegian added: “He’s such a big Arsenal fan, such a big heart for the club.
