She will join as part of a trio hosting Match of the Day next season

Gabby Logan will become the new face of Match of the Day next season, joining Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates as the programme's presenting team continues to evolve.

The 52-year-old broadcaster's appointment marks another milestone in a career that has seen her become increasingly prominent across British sports television.

Logan, daughter of former Wales football manager Terry Yorath, has built her broadcasting reputation over decades since transitioning from competitive sport.

She represented Wales in rhythmic gymnastics at the 1990 Commonwealth Games before establishing herself in television.

The former gymnast now has a net worth of around £4million.

Her recent years have seen her become more outspoken on topics beyond sport, discussing personal challenges with remarkable candour.

This openness has coincided with her continued professional success, culminating in this latest high-profile role at the BBC's flagship football programme.

Her willingness to share personal experiences has extended to discussing her own past mistakes.

In her 2022 autobiography The First Half, Logan revealed details about an affair during her university years at Durham with a German tennis player, cheating on her boyfriend at the time.

She explained her decision to include this revelation, telling The Times: "You want them to know. You set these kinds of standards for your kids and try and give them a great example. But actually, that's not the full picture and they didn't know me before I became a better person."

Logan emphasised the importance of learning from mistakes: "You're allowed to make bad decisions and then you move on. I think it's how you learn from those bad decisions."

Her husband Kenny's reaction to the revelation was one of surprise. "I didn't realise you had two boyfriends at the same time. That was a bit of a shock. It was a shock to the kids too!" he said.

In 2011, television presenter Gabby Logan faced completely unfounded rumours on Twitter falsely alleging an affair with former England footballer Alan Shearer. The baseless claims emerged during a period of media speculation about a footballer seeking to suppress a story.

Logan discovered the defamatory tweet whilst heading to a facial appointment. The post suggested: "I hear this injunction concerns @gabbylogan who is having an affair with Alan Shearer".

She immediately responded with a legal warning: "I think you should be careful what you write on here. The publishing laws apply and you are guilty of defamation of character with that."

The presenter later revealed her emotional response to the incident in her autobiography, recalling: "I laughed when I read it. Then I got angry. Then I panicked."

Rumours swirled about an affair with Alan Shearer, which was flat-out denied by Gabby Logan

Despite the allegations containing "not a grain of truth", Sunday newspapers including The News Of The World ran headlines such as "TV's Gabby Logan denies affair with Alan Shearer".

Logan dismissed these reports as completely baseless. She noted the broader context of wealthy public figures attempting to suppress unfavourable stories through legal means during that period.

Logan has also been frank about health challenges affecting her broadcasting career. At 51, she experienced menopause symptoms that threatened her professional confidence, particularly brain fog that made recalling names difficult.

"Feeling slightly unsure about things was such an unfamiliar feeling and I thought, 'Oh, God, am I going to keep doing my job if I can't recall somebody's name?'" Logan revealed.

She found relief through hormone replacement therapy and developed coping strategies, including brain exercises and keeping notes during filming.

The couple faced another health crisis in 2023 when Kenny was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The news, delivered via Zoom, left him weeping in his wife's arms.

Kenny has since been declared cancer-free, but the diagnosis marked another significant challenge for the family to navigate together.

Despite the personal challenges and tragedies that have marked her life, Logan's broadcasting career continues to flourish.

Her appointment to Match of the Day represents the culmination of decades spent establishing herself as one of British television's most respected sports presenters.
