Pensioners could end up paying more tax to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if the Labour Government adopts a recently proposed fiscal policy from the Resolution Foundation.
The think tank has floated a 2p cut in National Insurance, alongside a 2p hike in income tax, a move which would bring the rate paid by pensioners closer to the amount paid by working-age people.
Under the Resolution Foundation's policy, older Britons with incomes below £40,000 would still be better off next year than in 2025, due to upcoming increases to the state pension age, however the call for tax reform has renewed among pensioners.
