The Dutchman is in trouble at Old Trafford after his side's 3-0 battering on Sunday

Alan Shearer has criticised Erik ten Hag by saying 'nothing has changed' at Manchester United following their chastening 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Red Devils were trounced on their own turf, with a brace from Luis Diaz and second half effort from Mohamed Salah giving Arne Slot's team all three points.

Ten Hag was kept on at United after winning the FA Cup in May, despite the Dutchman seeing his team finish eighth in the Premier League table.

The 54-year-old dubbed Shearer's analysis of Marcus Rashford 'stupid' before the match against their fierce rivals.

But Shearer has now hit back.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, he said: "Look at their performance today... And then see."

The former Newcastle, Blackburn and Southampton star then suggested nothing had changed at United under Ten Hag.

"I totally get why he's trying to protect his player, he couldn't say anything different," he continued.

"But I think the truth be known at Man Utd nothing much as changed over the summer, has it?

"Certainly not in the performances we've seen."

United are yet to convince in any of their four matches this season - with the club losing three of those clashes.

They were beaten on penalties by Manchester City in the Community Shield last month, with Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans missing spot-kicks in the shootout.

Sancho has since left the club for Chelsea.

United scraped a 1-0 win over Fulham on matchday one, with Joshua Zirkzee netting the only goal of the game.

They lost 2-1 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium last weekend, with Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro netting either side of a goal from Amad.

And United were then comprehensively outplayed by Liverpool on Sunday, with Slot's side fully deserving of their win.

Pressure is mounting on Ten Hag already after such a poor start.

Yet the 54-year-old is confident his side will be in the mix to win trophies come the end of the season.

"It's just the third game in the season, we have to build a new team," Ten Hag said.

"I explained this so many times. We will build it. We have young players and players to build in.

"Today we had three players who started for the first time this season. We will be fine.

"It is clear we have to improve but at the end of the season I am confident we will have a big chance to lift another trophy."

He added: "It will take time, so it's not like I'm Harry Potter. That is what you have to acknowledge.

"And if you see Manuel Ugarte, he didn't play so far in the season. Not one match minute. He needs to build his fitness and then we have to build him in the team."
