That gave a chance for teams to change tyres with some suggestions that the hard tyre would be possible to potentially make it to the end of the race.
Hamilton and George Russell didn't have that opportunity though as they started the race on the hard compound, meaning they had to change to mediums at some point.
The seven-time world champion appeared to suggest that he would have preferred to have started on the medium compound in case of a crash on the opening lap.
"I told you guys," Hamilton said.

Mercedes ended up putting both their drivers on the medium tyre at the restart while both the Ferraris and McLarens were able to switch to the hards.
That meant all the top four drivers could potentially run until the end of the race, although with the need to manage their tyres.
Racing stewards felt there was no further investigation necessary for the first-lap incident involving Perez, Magnussen and Hulkenberg.

"I trusted he was going to leave space for me since I was there.
