The McLaren dominated around the Monte Carlo streets

Lando Norris took a commanding victory in an uneventful Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

Home-town hero Charles Leclerc came home in second, with championship leader Oscar Piastri also making the podium in France.

Norris held the lead into the first corner, but in doing so massively locked up his front right tyre.

Before the first lap ended there was a crash as Gabriel Bortoleto was shuffled into the wall by Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, leading to the Virtual Safety Car being deployed.

Pierre Gasly went flying over Yuki Tsunoda on Lap 9, cruising around the Monte Carlo streets with no left front tyre, driving back into the pits, and leaving debris all over the track.

Drivers have been told to stop immediately if they have damage, so Gasly may see some repercussions for his actions in Spain.

Incredibly Tsunoda was able to carry on after the crash and managed to finish the race.

The rules were changed for this years Monaco Grand Prix meaning that teams were required to make two mandatory pit stops, throwing chaos into the race, as the teams tried to work out the best way to make the two stops work around the twisty streets.

With Oliver Bearman being the one to get his two stops out of the way the quickest, getting both done by lap 18.

Overtaking has always been a scarcity around the Monaco streets, so this change in rules allowed more strategy to gain places through the race, Ferrari mastered this for the first round of stops, managing to get Lewis Hamilton ahead of Isack Hadjar through the pit stops.

The two mandatory stops also made traffic difficult for all the drivers, as drivers were being lapped very early into the Grand Prix, with some drivers rushed to get stops out of the way while others tried to go long.

The new rule was widely criticised during the race, as it meant teams that had two drivers together would hold up the field to allow the other enough of a gap to get their mandatory stops out of the way and then swap once one had completed their stops.

George Russell was given a drive-through penalty after deliberately cutting the chicane to get past a slow-moving Alex Albon, who was trying to give a gap to his teammate Carlos Sainz.

Only the top five drivers finished on the lead lap, with Lewis Hamilton being the last driver to finish on the same lap as race winner Norris.

The Racing Bulls played the strategy very well and brought their cars home in P6 and P8, with the two Williams rounding out the top ten.

In the last 15 laps, Max Verstappen left his last stop until the last possible moment, leading to the top three all being covered by less then two seconds, but after his stop he came home in fourth.

Leclerc put Norris under immense pressure in the closing stages but he was able to keep it together to get his first win around the Principality.

The win for Norris now seems him move to within three points of his teammate Piastri, meaning he could potentially take the championship lead next weekend in Spain.
