Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool after 20 years with the club as the Reds prepare for their final match of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The fixture at Anfield will be particularly poignant as fans will witness their team lift the Premier League trophy in person for the first time ever.

For Alexander-Arnold, who has been with the Merseyside club since joining their youth academy in 2004, the match represents the end of a lifelong association with his boyhood club.

The emotional farewell celebrations began during Liverpool's final training session at the AXA Training Centre, where club captain Virgil van Dijk led the tributes to Alexander-Arnold.

The Dutchman presented the departing vice-captain with a framed No 66 'Alexander-Arnold' Liverpool kit before addressing his teammate directly.

"Right, Trent, we all knew this day was coming, of course, and I speak for everyone here. We would like to thank you for everything you have done," said Van Dijk.

"We are definitely going to miss you. You're an outstanding player, a very good human being. We wish you well and thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

Following Van Dijk's gesture, the squad erupted in applause before Alexander-Arnold delivered an impromptu farewell message to his teammates.

"I'm just eternally grateful for everything that I've been given. We all dream of these moments but, for me, it feels even more special because I've been here 20 years," he said candidly.

"It's an amazing chapter of my life - it's been my whole life - it's been everything I've ever worked for - dreamt for."

The defender spoke movingly about the bonds formed with his colleagues, adding: "The bonds and the brotherhood I've got with you guys will remain with me forever."

As Alexander-Arnold prepares for his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt, there remains uncertainty over the reception he might receive from the Anfield faithful, having been booed by sections of supporters earlier this season.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his hope that Alexander-Arnold gets the "reception he deserves" in his farewell match, though he acknowledged: "I hope I can influence them, but they have their own opinion as well."
