The Duke of Sussex claims King Charles summoned him to Buckingham Palace to stop him pursuing legal action

Prince Harry's relationship with Prince William is in tatters just days before Coronation after King Charles tried to stop son's legal action.

On Tuesday, Prince Harry's lawyers claimed that Prince William settled for a "very large sum" in a deal struck between Buckingham Palace and News Group Newspapers (NGN).

Harry's lawyers have said that William settled a phone-hacking claim in 2020.

The court document said: "It is important to bear in mind that in responding to this bid by NGN to prevent his claims going to trial, the claimant has had to make public the details of this secret agreement, as well as the fact that his brother, His Royal Highness, Prince William, has recently settled his claim against NGN behind the scenes."

It added that NGN had settled with William "for a very large sum of money in 2020".

The Duke of Sussex is suing News Group Newspapers (NGN) at the High Court in London.

It is understood the Prince of Wales was completely unaware of the contents of Harry's statement until it was made public just 12 days before the Coronation.

Prince William and Prince Harry have reportedly not spoken since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022.

According to the Telegraph, sources close to both the Sussexes and the Waleses do not expect any rapprochement when Prince Harry flies to the UK for the Coronation on May 6.

In court documents, Prince Harry also claimed King Charles summoned him to Buckingham Palace in a bid to stop him pursuing legal action.

The Duke of Sussex said: "I was summoned to Buckingham Palace and specifically told to drop the legal actions because they have an 'effect on all the family'."

He added: "This was a direct request (or rather demand) from my father, Edward Young and my father's private secretary, Clive Alderton."

Earlier this month, it was announced that Prince Harry will attend King Charles's Coronation without Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex will stay in California with their young children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Palace said in a statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
