The interview aired just one day before Princess Beatrice's birthday

Dara Huang has spoken candidly about her past breakup with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a newly released interview, which aired just one day before Princess Beatrice’s 37th birthday.

The American architect, who shares a nine-year-old son named Christopher Woolf (known as Wolfie) with Edoardo, dated the property developer between 2015 and 2018.

Edoardo later married Beatrice in 2020, and the couple now share two daughters.

Appearing on the House of Impact podcast with Geni Cor, Huang was asked how she navigated the difficult period following the end of her relationship.

‘I didn’t have a good relationship with my ex’: Dara Huang reflects on split from Beatrice’s husband

“You had this moment in your life where you were going through a breakup,” Cor said. “You became a single mum, and you still had to show up for your work every day. How did you get yourself out of that place?”

Huang replied: “There’s always these stages of grief, and then at a certain point, you get to a point where you’re like, 'I need to f***ing survive.' Like, if I don’t do this, nobody else will. So we got to pick ourselves up, dry our tears, and keep going, you know?

“And it almost makes you stronger. I feel like through every hurdle in my life, they’re usually breakups, right?

“That’s when I always became stronger because I became even more determined.”

Huang told Cor that she is a 'co-parent' and not a 'single mum'

Reflecting on the early days of co-parenting with her ex, she admitted it hadn’t always been easy.

“When I became a single mom — to go back to your answer — to be fair, I'm a co-parent. So I think at the beginning, I felt more like a single parent because I didn't have a good relationship with my ex at the beginning.

“But then I forced myself to, because I said, 'You know what? This is not about me, or my ex, or even this situation.' I don't care what situation it is.

“This is really about my child and him being really happy and feeling like nothing's changed, and knowing that his mommy and daddy love him so much.”

Huang said her priorities shifted the moment she became a mother: “There’s certain things we have to do, whether or not we want to do them.

“So me, drying my tears, picking myself back up, having a great relationship, which created and fostered a co-parenting relationship, that was part of... I don't know if it was me surviving, or me just being smart, or me being... you really have to put your feelings aside. Do you know what I mean?

“I just wanted the best scenario for my kid. And I think the minute you become a parent is the moment that you take all selfishness out of the equation. It is not about you anymore. It's about the survival of this little thing.”

She added: “And I feel like almost everything I do is to really support the happiness of my child. I also feel the need to take care of my family, like my parents and my sister, and of course, my team.

“So I think that that resilience really keeps us going.”
