The Prince of Wales also holds the title Duke of Cornwall

Prince William has shared a personal message with a Cornish football club as it prepares to mark a historic milestone.

The Prince of Wales, who also holds the title Duke of Cornwall, sent a letter to Truro City captain Connor Riley-Lowe as the club transitions to full-time professional status for the first time in its history.

The letter, sent via William’s Private Secretary Ian Patrick, included a message of support ahead of the team’s new season. William, 43, is a passionate football fan and serves as patron of the Football Association. A regular fixture at Aston Villa matches, the royal offered his encouragement as Truro steps into the National League.

"The Duke knows that you have only just returned home after a few years away, and like everyone else in Cornwall will be cheering you on," the letter read.

"Prince William has asked me to pass on his warmest congratulations in getting promoted to the National League as Cornwall's first professional team.

"This comes with the Duke of Cornwall's very best wishes. Good luck to The Tinners."

Truro City’s promotion to the National League makes it the first professional football club in Cornwall, marking a significant moment for the local sporting community.

The Prince of Wales has shown a growing interest in Cornish football in recent months. In June, he stepped in to support Mousehole AFC, a club based in the small village of Paul near Land’s End, which had been struggling with access issues due to a pothole-ridden lane.

The route had caused traffic problems and vehicle damage, creating challenges for visiting teams and supporters alike.

In response, William helped coordinate efforts to resolve the issue, bringing together local stakeholders to begin construction on a new access road.

Reflecting on the project, the Prince said: "I have seen time and time again that community hubs are essential in providing the spaces for people to come together, to build stronger communities and to allow people to thrive.

"It is a privilege to be able to help the local community access Mousehole AFC. I'd like to personally add my thanks for all the hard work that’s gone into making it happen.

"I look forward to seeing the new road for myself as soon as I can."

The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently taking a break from official duties during their children's school summer holidays.

William’s most recent public appearance was at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final in Basel, Switzerland, where he was joined by Princess Charlotte. The pair congratulated the Lionesses after their second Euro victory, stepping onto the pitch during the trophy presentation.
