It comes after Donald Trump called for 'ideally' a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

Vladimir Putin has been issued an ultimatum by Keir Starmer and European leaders to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine.

The UK Prime Minister travelled to the capital of Ukraine to be hosted by President Volodymyr Zelensky in peace talks.

It comes after Donald Trump put pressure on the Kremlin, calling for "ideally" a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

The US president also warned that if any temporary treaty is violated, the US and its allies will "impose further sanctions."

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump declared that the peace process "can all be done very quickly" and that he would "be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed."

He added: "Thousands of young soldiers are dying on a weekly basis, and everybody should want it to STOP. I do, and the United States of America does, also.

"As President, I will stay committed to securing Peace between Russia and Ukraine, together with the Europeans, and a Lasting Peace it will be! This ceasefire must ultimately build toward a Peace Agreement."

Putin has been increasingly blamed for resisting calls for a temporary ceasefire.

They stated clearly that "the bloodshed must end" and that Russia must stop its illegal invasion.

The European leaders are expected to host a virtual meeting to update others on progress towards a peacekeeping force.

Military officers from around 30 countries have been involved in planning the coalition.
