Wes Streeting spoke to GB News about the reported ban of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP
Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting has been grilled by GB News presenter Isabel Webster over the treatment afforded to Diane Abbott by the Labour Party.
The long-serving MP was suspended last year for saying Jewish, Irish and Traveller people do not face racism "all their lives". She apologised shortly after making the comments.
The BBC reported this morning that the controversial figure had texted one of their reporters to claim she will not be allowed to stand for the party at the upcoming election.
Abbott has since claimed that she is not banned from standing and is "dismayed" by the reports.
Wes Streeting appeared on Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel to discuss Labour's NHS pledge and labelled the Conservative Party's handling of the situation a "clown show" and a "circus".
Isabel then said: "Speaking of circuses, what about the treatment of Diane Abbott? There's all the hoo-ha about what your leader knew about when this investigation was completed, whether or not he was telling the truth, saying that was still happening.
"But this morning, lots of confusion. It seems as though she was given the whip. The whip was restored after this racism investigation, and the view, presumably from the National Executive Committee, was that she would quietly resign and not want to stand.
"But it seems from what she's been saying this morning on the airwaves, Diane Abbott wants to stand and the Labour Party is barring her. Is that the right treatment for a veteran Labour MP and the first black female MP in the party?"
