The Home Office will seek to deport an asylum seeker after he was jailed for 12 months for sexual assaults on a woman and a 14-year-old girl under new deportation guidelines.
Ethiopian national Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, who arrived in the UK on a small boat days before the incidents, was found guilty of five offences after a three-day trial at Chelmsford and Colchester Magistrates’ Courts.
Sources within the Home Office told GB News the process to deport Kebatu following his sentencing has already begun.
On Tuesday, a judge told the 38-year-old his behaviour "really highlights the poor regard you must have for women", adding Kebatu was "feeling sorry for yourself, knowing you were well and truly caught."
The sentencing hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court was told Kebatu wants to be deported after serving his time in prison, with his defence lawyer Molly Dyas adding it is a view he held "before the trial."
The court heard that the defendant also told a probation officer that the "United Kingdom was too strict" after being convicted of sexual assault.
Kebatu’s sentence comes as new rules come into force today that could see foreign prisoners deported at an earlier point in their sentence to free up jail space.
Those who are serving fixed-term sentences with no right to stay in the UK could be deported after serving 30 per cent of their jail term, instead of 50 per cent currently.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, when serving as Justice Secretary, also revealed plans for further reforms in August to deport eligible foreign prisoners immediately when they receive a custodial sentence.
This law change is included in the Sentencing Bill, currently going through Parliament.
The Home Secretary said: "Last minute attempts to frustrate a removal are intolerable, and I will fight them at every step. “We have taken immediate steps to tackle this issue by amending policy on September 17.
"I have also commissioned work to consider wider reforms and what more can be done to prevent misuse of the Modern Slavery system.
"I will fight to end vexatious, last-minute challenges. I will robustly defend the British public’s priorities in any court. And I will do whatever it takes to secure our border."

Former Labour MP hits out at Your Party's 'embarrassing meltdown' as she joins the Greens
Thelma Walker has joined the Green Party
|WIKICOMMONS
A former Labour MP has joined the Green Party as she slammed the "embarrassing meltdown" of Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana's Your Party.
Thelma Walker, who represented the Colne Valley constituency from 2017 to 2019, has joined Zack Polanski's party, which has seen membership surge to over 77,000 paid-up members this week.
Mrs Walker, who stood for the Northern Independence Party at the Hartlepool by-election in 2021, finishing eighth, said Mr Polanski's leadership was one of the main reasons she joined the party.
She told The London Economic: "I didn’t intend to join any political party, as I felt staying independent and achieving a Labour and Green alliance could cut through. Then two things happened.
“First, the leadership of Zack Polanski. He is confronting the issues people care about, speaking to the media, and listening to understand the struggles of ordinary people.
"Secondly, the embarrassing meltdown of Your Party has shown neither Zara Sultana or Jeremy Corbyn are fit to lead a party following their very public spat.
"So here I am, ready to help in whatever way I can to end inequality, fight fascism and deliver an eco-socialist government."

"Now they want to go to sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.
"Both the immigration and their suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe if something isn’t done immediately. This cannot be sustained."
Nigel Farage 'helped cause' Britain's migration crisis - Sir Ed Davey
Sir Ed Davey sought to portray the Lib Dems as the only party offering an alternative vision of change to Reform UK at the next election.
He said: “It comes down to us or Nigel Farage: Liberal Democrat change – true to British values, transforming our economy, our public services and our politics, the real change people crave, or Farage’s change.
“Change away from the country we love, change towards Trump’s America.”
Sir Ed also claimed Mr Farage “helped cause” the migration crisis the UK is now facing.
He told the Lib Dem party conference: “Who was it who campaigned to rip up 27 return agreements, where in the EU, the United Kingdom could legally and fairly return people who had no right to be here?
“Yes, it was Boris and the Conservatives, but it was also Nigel Farage. He helped cause this crisis and he should apologise.”

Speaking at the Lib Dem conference in Bournemouth, Lib Dem Treasurer, Tilly McAuliffe, described Reform UK as "reheated" Conservatives.
She said: "Reform try and convince people they are fresh. They're not. They are reheated, hard-right Tories with angrier slogans and nastier soundbites. The same failed ideas.
"But if we don't move fast, they will sell themselves as the alternative, the new kids on the block to solve all our problems."
"They pedal conspiracy theories, they cosy up to anti-vaxxers at their conference, Ms McAuliffe added.

Robert Jenrick calls for the 'immediate' deportation of 'every illegal migrant' in Britain after Ethiopian asylum seeker jailed for sexual assault
Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu was today handed a 12-month prison sentence after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and a 14-year-old girl just days after arriving in the UK by small boat.
Reacting to the news, Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick MP said: "This truly despicable man must be booted out the country immediately.
"As I’ve said for years, I am sick to death of men like this - from backwards cultures - breaking into our country on small boats.
"It is shameful that parents were smeared as ‘racist’ for protesting against appalling behaviour by small boat migrants. They’re not - they’re good parents who want to keep their children safe.
"No human rights treaty is more important than the safety of the British people. Every illegal migrant must be deported from the county immediately.”
'This vile crime should never have been allowed to happen', says Shadow Home Secretary as Ethiopian asylum seeker sentenced
An Ethiopian asylum seeker living in a hotel in Epping, Essex, has today been sentenced to 12 months in jail after being found guilty of five charges, including two of sexual assault.
Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and a 14-year-old girl just days after arriving in the UK by small boat.
Speaking after the sentencing, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: "Justice has now been served and the Government must now deport this criminal immediately.
"The reality is this vile crime should never have been allowed to happen.
“In Epping, people protested for weeks because to close the Bell Hotel, but Labour’s response was not to listen, rather to drag the local council through the courts to keep the hotel open and silence the local community.
“Towns like Epping should never have been put in this position.
"Illegal immigrants should not be housed in hotels, they should be deported.
"The Conservatives will pass our Deportation Bill, shut the hotels, ensure every foreign national offender is removed from Britain with no exceptions, and restore the rule of law so that towns in Britain never have to go through this again.”

He is expected to use the wide-ranging speech to continue his spat with Elon Musk, and to welcome US scientists, who have had their cancer research work halted, to the UK.
EU set to scupper Nigel Farage's plan to save £234bn from migrant benefit cuts with 4.2m Europeans exempt from changes
Nigel Farage's plan to save £234billion by banning non-UK citizens from claiming benefits is facing questions as it emerged there would be a carve-out for EU citizens with settled status.
The party has said it would axe the right of migrants to apply for indefinite leave to remain, ban anyone who is not a UK citizen from claiming benefits and force those applying for UK citizenship to renounce other citizenship.
But it has exempted EU citizens with settled status from its plans to ban migrant access to benefits and its policies on indefinite leave to remain (ILR).
European sources have questioned why it would agree to the proposals which would "make EU nationals worse off than they are now".
According to The Times, one European diplomat said: "It takes two to tango in a treaty negotiation, why would we agree to reopen this very sensitive Brexit legacy to make EU nationals worse off than they are now."

Business Secretary to visit Jaguar Land Rover after major cyber attack
Business Secretary Peter Kyle will visit Jaguar Land Rover to meet firms in the supply chain for the carmaker following a cyber attack.
JLR, the UK’s largest carmaker, has paused production in the wake of a major cyber attack, having a knock-on impact to the companies which supply it.
Industry minister Chris McDonald said: “We have two priorities, helping Jaguar Land Rover get back up and running as soon as possible and the long-term health of the supply chain.
“The Business Secretary and I are visiting JLR today to host companies in the supply chain, to listen to workers and hear how we can support them and help get production back online.
“We are acutely aware of the difficulties the stoppage is causing for those suppliers and their staff, many of whom are already taking a financial hit through no fault of their own – and we will do everything we can to reassure them that the Government is on their side.”

Rachel Reeves now urged to make pensioners pay for Budget 'black hole' in unprecedented tax raid
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has been urged to move the tax burden towards pensioners
|GETTY
Rachel Reeves has been urged by an influential Labour-linked think tank to move the tax burden away from young, working Britons and towards pensioners.
The Resolution Foundation has suggested Ms Reeves should hike income tax by two per cent - while slashing the National Insurance rate by the same amount.
The move could raise £6billion for the Government as income tax is also paid by pensioners and self-employed Britons, while workers on a salary would see the hike cancelled out by the NI drop.
