Reports surfaced that a Russian vessel was seen at sites off the coast of Britain as part of an operation.
An expert has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t know what’s going on in his own mind” after reports of a Russian vessel seen at sites off the coast of Britain in an operation to map out its energy network.
Defence Editor at the Evening Standard, Robert Fox, joined Tom Harwood to share a worrying outlook for the future of Putin’s relationship with the West.
Harwood asked when Putin might decide to send out an attack on the UK.
Fox responded: “It depends on what's going on in Vladimir Putin's mind. And I was talking to an old friend, he just retired. Probably one of the best Italian ambassadors, and the Italians have a very close relationship with Moscow.
“I said, ‘come on [Pasquale [Terracciano], tell me what do you think is going on in Putin's mind?’ And this is only about four months ago.
“He said ‘I don't think Putin knows half the time what's going on in his own mind’. He's a gambler, he's a roller. What happens if he really does face collapse at home?"
He continued: “It's not exactly make or break, but it's a real test for Ukraine and Ukrainian resilience as we come up to the so-called and there will be something, summer offensive. It's a big, big counter offensive from the Ukrainians.
