The university is working with Thatchers Cider and the National Association of Cider Makers, which they hope will expose the students to the newest technology as well as expanding their experience in the industry.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Edwards said: “Certainly, any cider made would not be sold nor taken home, but for instance, this year we set up a tasting panel, which did a blind tasting of the cider generated… and the information generated is now being used to inform next year’s module development work.”
He added: “We want to show how, via sophisticated procedures, a variable crop such as apples… which varies month by month and year to year can be turned into a consistent high quality product.”
