Novak Djokovic's uncle Goran speaks exclusively to Nigel Farage on GB News about his treatment in Australia.

Novak Djokovic is currently "like an animal in a trap" waiting to be detained in Australia, his uncle Goran has told Nigel Farage on GB News.

Tennis' world number one has been caught up in a Covid row after refusing to take the vaccine.

Djokovic, 34, had initially been granted entry to the country to play in the Australian Open, but was then detained having his visa revoked.

A court appeal saw Djokovic granted a visa, with him recently having Covid in December, but Australia has the right to overturn the court of appeal decision.

The Serbian is now currently stuck in limbo, fearing he will be detained at any moment.

His uncle Goran exclusively told GB News how his nephew is being treated like a cage animal.

He told GB News: "If they issued a visa for him and then they arrest him, then for me this is like a trap for the animals, like a wolf.

"They invite him to come then they trap him and try to put him in jail.

"They are trying to put him on his knees but it is not possible, we are Serbian, we are a very proud Serbian nation.

"I expect they will keep putting pressure on Novak because they don't want to release [him].

"Novak didn't break any law."

Novak is currently still in the lawyer's office in the building of the court, Goran told Mr Farage, trying to see what he will do.

He added: "They told him personally it is better for him to leave Australia immediately or they can match the penalty, three years ban to get into Australia [sic].

"We still don't believe this is happening in the 21st century."

He also said he didn't know what was happening at the moment because the tennis star is still talking with his lawyers.

Goran also hit out at Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who has been vocal in his criticism of Djokovic.

He added: "Scott [Morrison] has to take care of his position for the next election, I don't know if his PR told him if they think it would be good.

"I have a feeling he will no longer be Prime Minister after April, this is what I hope."

A member of Djokovic's family earlier told Nigel Farage how they feared he could be arrested and detained at any moment.

Judge Anthony Kelly has quashed the visa cancellation, and ordered the Australian Government to pay legal costs and release Djokovic from detention within half an hour.

Government counsel Christopher Tran notified the court that the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs – not the minister who made the original visa cancellation – will now consider whether to exercise a personal power of cancellation of Djokovic’s visa.

The court released a transcript of Djokovic’s interview with Border Force last week, during which the Serb confirmed he has had Covid-19 twice and is not vaccinated.

In the transcript, when asked why he was travelling to Australia, Djokovic said: “I’m a professional tennis player and the main reason for me coming to Australia is participating in the Australian Open in Melbourne Victoria.”

In response to a question about his vaccination status, he said: “I am not vaccinated.”

When asked if he had ever had Covid-19, Djokovic replied: “I had Covid twice, I had Covid in June 2020 and I had Covid recently in – I was tested positive – PCR – 16th December 2021.”
