Political writer and pundit James Melville says Ms Sturgeon has "effectively locked Scotland in fear" due to her Covid-19 response

Nicola Sturgeon has created “a mentality that might take a while to shake off” as a GB News guest hits out at the Scottish First Minister's Covid-19 response.

Ms Sturgeon has been slammed for previously stalling on easing strict measures across the country, even when cases were dropping.

And Political writer and pundit James Melville believes that Ms Sturgeon has “effectively locked Scotland in fear”, adding that the mood difference around Covid-19 between England and Scotland is “heartbreaking”.

Speaking on GB News' Dan Wootton Tonight, Mr Melville said: “Our approach to Covid-19 in an hour of emergency in Scotland I think has created a mentality in Scotland that might take a whole to shake off.

“I’ve been up to Scotland a number of times visiting family and friends over the last few months and there is a mood difference In Scotland I would say in the response to Covid compared to England and I find that actually heartbreaking.

“I think the perception of Nicola Sturgeon, largely born out of a lot of the media in Scotland, is that she’s a little bit more professional than Boris Johnson and I will give her that.

“Although Boris Johnson is looking it from a low base line."

He continued: “But there is, from my own opinion, that she’s taken the response to Covid too far, it’s going on too long.

"Scotland is at a point now where it should be like for instance in England, where Scots are getting on with their lives.

“They are learning to live with Covid and the freedoms will be unravelled for people in Scotland so people feel free and confident to get on with their lives.

“But Sturgeon is not giving off that impression and is effectively locking Scotland in fear.”
