David Carrick now stands accused of committing 29 separate offences against eight women

A serving Metropolitan Police officer, accused of a string of sex offences, has appeared in court to face a further nine charges.

PC David Carrick now stands accused of committing 29 separate offences against eight women.

The 47 year old officer appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today, via a videolink from Belmarsh prison.

Wearing a grey suit and tie and a covid face mask, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and his home address in Hertfordshire.

The firearms officer, based within Scotland Yard’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, first appeared in court last October, charged with one count of rape against a woman in St. Albans in September 2020.

Last month, he appeared at St. Albans' Crown Court, charged with a further 20 offences against four women.

The court was told he allegedly raped one woman he met on the dating app Tinder and falsely imprisoned another in a cupboard under the stairs.

PC Carrick, who is currently suspended pending the outcome of the legal proceedings, is attached to the same Met police unit where PC Wayne Couzens worked.

Couzens was given a whole life sentence on 30 September last year for the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard, who was abducted as she walked home past Clapham Common in south west London.

The charges facing PC David Carrick are unrelated to any of the offences committed by Wayne Couzens.

PC Carrick is accused of -

  • Thirteen counts of rape;
  • Five counts of sexual assault
  • Three counts of assault by penetration
  • Three counts of coercive and controlling behaviour
  • Two counts of false imprisonment
  • One count of attempted rape
  • One count of attempted sexual assault by penetration
  • One count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent

PC Carrick, who denies all the charges against him, was remanded back into custody.

He is due to make another appearance at St. Albans crown court on 28 January for a mention hearing.

A provisional trial date has been set for April.
