Accompanied by a picture of the huge shark, Mr Specht said his nephew Logan had a “really close call.”
He added: “He had to put the board between him and a big white.
“He thought it was over.”
Mr Specht said he used the incident as a warning for others, especially tourists who he said “just have no idea”.
He added: “So many crew locals and tourists have no idea of the (amount of) whites following the whales and the mullet schools up and down (the) coast this time of year.”
The surfer also recalled another incident when he was surfing a nearby spot near Frenchman’s Beach in the 1970s.
He said how a fellow surfer had his leg bitten off by a shark, adding “I will never forget the carnage of it”
