Gary Neville slammed Rishi Sunak during a Labour Party fundraiser comparing his performance in the face of the country’s economic outlook to that of the Tottenham Hotspur team.
Sitting next to Party Leader Sir Keir Starmer, Mr Neville joked: “If Rishi Sunak was a footballer he’d be playing for Tottenham. He looks good but when the going gets tough he does one.”
The former Manchester United player took aim at Mr Sunak following his Spring Statement announcement.
An analysis of the mini-budget by the Resolution Foundation revealed 1.3 million people - including half a million children will be dragged below the poverty line.

In the face of such stark reality, the Chancellor’s proposed tax cuts and refusal to upgrade welfare benefits are being met with outrage over their inadequacy.
The Tottenham team have likewise been recently savaged following after suffering a series of consecutive losses.

Labour's Rachel Reeves lashed out at Mr Sunak and said he is "making the cost-of-living crisis worse, not better".
The Shadow Chancellor said: “Inflation is at its highest level for 30 years and rising. Energy prices at record highs. People are worried sick.
“For all his words, it is clear that the Chancellor does not understand the scale of the challenge. He talks about providing security for working families, but his choices are making the cost-of-living crisis worse, not better."
GB News’ Liam Halligan also slammed the Chancellor for making tax cut promises he believes he won’t be able to keep.
The Chancellor vowed to cut the basic rate of income tax from 20p to 19p in 2024.
Liam, suspicious that the cut comes into effect during an election year, said: “With so much uncertainty, he [Rishi Sunak] cannot in my view credibly say that tax cut will happen."
