Social commentator and former glamour model, Leilani Dowding, believes the whole debate is "nauseating" and "ridiculous"

A guest on Dan Wootton Tonight believes the Angela Rayner row is “more of a joke on Boris Johnson”.

An article published in the Mail on Sunday quoted an anonymous Tory source claiming that Ms Rayner was crossing and uncrossing her legs to distract the Prime Minister.

But speaking on GB News’ The Clash, social commentator and former glamour model Leilani Dowding said she believes the whole debate is “nauseating” and “ridiculous”.

She said: “We’re always talking about how scruffy he [Boris Johnson] is, how scruffy his hair and how he looks as though he’s just got out of bed two minutes ago.

“So it’s not something that’s only exclusive to female politicians and to be honest I’ve not really heard that many female politicians being talked about, their appearances.

“And this whole thing of crossing and uncrossing her legs is just ridiculous and actually more power to her if she can distract Boris by doing so.

“To be honest it’s more of a joke on Boris than her really and for people to take such offence over it is just so nauseating.”

Her comments come after Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said It was up to men to make politics better for women by ending misogynistic behaviour.

When asked how politics can be made more welcoming to women, the Scottish First Minister said: “Men have to stop being misogynists.”

She added: “Not all men are misogynists, but misogyny comes from men and that’s what needs to change.

“It’s not women that need to change, it’s the conduct and behaviour and attitudes of men."

Ms Sturgeon went on to say that women are too often reduced “to their body parts”.

She continued: “I’ve been subject to that, all women in public life have been.

“And, also, this suggestion that the failures of men can always be laid at the door of a woman.

“The fact that Boris Johnson performs poorly in the House of Commons, the fact that Angela Rayner manages to out-debate him on every occasion that they’re up against each other, is somehow Angela Rayner’s fault rather than the fact that Boris Johnson’s just not very good at his job.”
