When questioned by GB News' Kirsty Gallacher, former Conservative Treasury minister Robert Jenrick said he thought taxes were already too high.
He said he wanted the government to be fiscally responsible but added: "Personally, I think we're already very highly taxed. And so I wouldn't want to see further increases in taxation, of any kind. Maybe there'll be opportunities now or in the future to reform or reduce taxes."
Mr Jenrick said he was concerned about the cost of living, highlighting there were "many attractive options" available to Chancellor Rishi Sunak through an uncertain period "particularly with high levels of inflation and energy prices."
As a former Housing Secretary he was also pressed about his thoughts on housebuilding, telling Simon McCoy: "We can both build more homes, but also regenerate and renew some of those parts of our communities that I've looked neglected and undervalued for too long."
