Unvaccinated Morrisons staff who are told to isolate but test negative now get statutory sick pay of £96.35 a week.

Calls to boycott Morrisons have started to trend on Twitter as the supermarket faces criticism over its decision to cut sick pay for unjabbed staff who are forced to isolate.

Unvaccinated Morrisons staff who are told to isolate but test negative now get statutory sick pay of £96.35 a week.

The company pays workers at least £10 per hour.

Covid-positive employees get full sick pay regardless of vaccination status.

The company has followed other retailers such as Next, Ikea and Ocado as staff absences rise.

People have slammed the decision on Twitter as it trends.

James Melville wrote: "I will not shop at Morrisons until they drop this discriminatory policy. #BoycottMorrisons".

Another user named Ash commented: "Companies like Morrisons cutting sick pay for #covid unvaccinated is a worrying trend. I'm fully vaccinated, but it is a matter of personal choice and unscrupulous employers, clearly see it as a way of reducing employee rights".

Despite this, some have defended the decision made by the supermarket.

One Twitter user, named Tom, said: "It [being vaccinated] is entirely one's choice and always should be and remain a choice. However, choices have consequences".

Ikea have followed a similar policy in cutting sick pay for those who choose to be unvaccinated.

The company said in a statement: "Unvaccinated co-workers without mitigating circumstances that test positive with covid will be paid full company sick pay in line with our company absence policy.

"Unvaccinated co-workers without mitigating circumstances who have been identified as close contacts of a positive case will be paid Statutory Sick Pay."
