Almost a thousand people arrived in UK waters on small boats on Saturday, during an 'extremely busy day' of migrant activity, according to British authorities.
Official figures from the Ministry of Defence reveal that 990 people were taken off 24 small boats.
Lifeboats, Border Force and Royal Navy vessels began responding to small boat sightings before first light on Saturday.
Almost 40,000 migrants have crossed the Channel this year.

Authorities were still responding to inflatables spotted in the Channel just before midnight on Saturday.
The latest arrivals take the number who have crossed the English Channel so far this year to 39,427.
The figure is almost 11,000 higher than the 28,526 who arrived during the whole of last year.
