This is the PencilWash, a brand-new gadget designed to combine "the simplicity of a broom" with "the precision and power from Dyson engineering," according to the iconic British brand.
If the design looks familiar, it's likely because the Dyson PencilWash builds on the stylings of the PencilVac announced last year – the slimmest vacuum cleaner to ever leave Sir James Dyson's R&D department.
Like this ultra-svelte vacuum, the PencilWash measures just 38mm in diameter. To put that slim frame into context, the handle of most tennis rackets isn't much smaller, at roughly 35mm. Yes, it's that thin.

Despite its smaller size, Dyson says the 300mL water tank can clean up to 100m2 of flooring

It tips the scales at 2.2kg, but you'll only carry 380g of that in the hand when manoeuvring this high-tech mop – that's about the same as a large bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk (360g), making it easy to steer and twist to clean every corner. Dyson has engineered the PencilWash to lie flat to 170º to clean under furniture without losing performance.
Dyson says its latest gadget is capable of tackling both light spills and stubborn stains, thanks to the two built-in cleaning modes. These also offer precise control of floor wetness, so you're always guaranteed a quick-drying finish.

Dyson has engineered its £299 PencilWash always to ensure flooring is quick-dry, so you're not waiting to walk on the freshly-cleaned surface for long

You can adjust the water flow from the eight-point hydration system to deliver different levels of fresh water to the rollers to suit different surfaces and cleaning needs. As you manoeuvre the PencilWash across the floor, dirty water and debris are continuously extracted from the microfibre roller on every rotation.
Given the PencilWash's slender size, you might be worried that you'll need to constantly refill the water tank, but Dyson says the 300mL water tank can clean up to 100m2 of flooring. Likewise, the sleek design could be bad news for battery life, but the engineers have made enough efficiencies to offer 30-minutes of continuous cleaning.
There's a swappable battery pack design for those who need to clean for longer periods, letting you instantly switch to a new battery pack with 100% charge to continue cleaning for another half an hour.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
Unlike most conventional wet and dry cleaners on the market, Dyson has designed its all-new PencilWash with no filter. That's because these can often trap dirt, breed bacteria and emit odours as you clean your home. Not only that, but filters can be cumbersome and unpleasant to clean.
Just as Dyson ditched the dustbag from its original lineup of vacuums, the filter-free design of the wet cleaner removes the risk of sludge, blockages, or a drop in performance, ensuring powerful cleaning every time.
Discussing the new product, Dyson Chief Technology Officer, John Churchill, said: "We’re keen on making machines smaller and lighter while dramatically improving performance. PencilWash applies that thinking to wet cleaning: our slimmest, ultra‑light format that glides effortlessly and reaches where others can’t.

"Using hydration, agitation and extraction, it delivers a hygienic clean with fresh water only, supported by our filter‑free system. It brings the simplicity of a broom together with the precision and power from Dyson engineering."
Dyson PencilWash will be available to buy in the UK from March 4, 2026. It will cost £299.99.
