Lewis Hamilton has argued that McLaren’s current performance gap to the rest of the grid is not “insurmountable”, but does not think Ferrari will be the one to close down the gap.
The former McLaren man joined the Scuderia in the winter aiming to be racing at the sharp end alongside his former team.
That has not been the case, after a very strong showing in 2024, Ferrari came second in the constructors championship but has been unable to replicate the same form this season.
Hamilton has one sprint win while Leclerc has only been able to get on the podium, but not the top step as of yet.
Lewis Hamilton is confident teams will close the gap to McLaren
PAThe SF-25 has been unable to deliver the same performance that McLaren has been able to produce and while Ferrari does sit second in the constructors championship, they sit 197 points behind the leader McLaren.
Hamilton believes there is still the possibility teams will be able to catch them this season.
"It's an amazing job they've done," he said.
"For me, it's half a second, but they're three-tenths clear, probably, to the guys behind. Just over three tenths, I think it is."

The McLaren has been the car to beat so far this season
Reuters"It's not an insurmountable amount that you could catch up," he explained. "But, for example, a lot of work went in... months went into developing and getting a tenth [of a second] of performance.
"So I don't know if we have... we don't have half a second coming, that's for sure, which is what you'll need to topple them. But never say never."
