The 16-year-old is looking to shine in the sport like his father did during his own playing days

Cricket fans have been left wowed after a brilliant performance from Rocky Flintoff, the son of England icon Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff.

Flintoff is one of the best all-rounders this country has ever seen, having established himself as a Three Lions legend prior to his retirement in 2010.

And his son, Rocky, is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps.

The youngster, who only turned 16 earlier this month, turned out for Lancashire's 2nd XI against Durham on Thursday.

Rocky produced a sublime performance with the bat, with the teenager hitting a remarkable 50 not out.

Coming in at No 5, he managed his half-century from just 78 balls - with the youngster also hitting three huge sixes along the way.

And fans on X have reacted, with many tipping Rocky for a bright future in the sport - just like his father.

One user said: "Son of English all-rounder the great Freddie Flintoff.. such an uncanny resemblance."

A second stated: "The resemblance is uncanny."

Another opined: "Like father, like son!"

A fourth said: "It's the arm swing afterwards that takes me back."

A fifth said: "Does this feel like we genuinely have a player to look forward to, in a few years?"

"Reminds me of Ian Botham innings at Old Trafford in the Ashes when he kept hitting sixes with Tavare stood watching," were the words of another enthused supporter.

And a seventh said: "Touch of Freddy."

Flintoff has only just returned to the public eye after a serious car crash in December 2022.

The England icon sustained nasty injuries to his face, while also breaking his ribs while filming for Top Gear.

Flintoff was lucky to emerge from the crash with his life and, according to The Sun, is set to return to screens for a third season of his hit show Field of Dreams.

Filming for series two, which takes place in India, has already wrapped up.

Flintoff is expected to shoot scenes for series three this autumn, with episodes then due to release in 2026.

Since his car accident, the 46-year-old has also spent some time working with the England cricket team.

And Three Lions chief Rob Key, speaking last month, tipped Flintoff to secure a top coaching job when one becomes available.

“He knows what it is like to struggle," he said.

“As a leader, your interactions mean you can impact people in a positive or negative way.

“Fred is aware of that and he understands how to use that gift with people.

“Flintoff is a leader like Ben Stokes. He is not going to need to learn leadership qualities.

“Without question, he’d be an excellent coach. He’ll be a worthy candidate going forward.

“For all the things he’s done, cricket is always the thing he goes back to.

“It’s almost like he has no choice. It’s what he thinks about the most after his family.”
