Arsenal are at risk of losing one of their biggest targets of the summer

Arsenal appear to be at risk of losing out on star striker Viktor Gyokeres after not hearing from Sporting Lisbon for three days.

The Gunners have been picking up their pursuit of the Swedish star, and he is thought to have signed a pre-contract agreement with the club, as he is very keen on a move to the Premier League.

It was revealed on Wednesday that talks have stalled between the two sides as they are clashing on the asking price of the Swedish international.

Gyokeres believes he has an honour agreement that allows him to leave the club for a fee of €60 million, plus another €10m (£51.7m plus £8.6m).

Arsenal has met that target, offering €65m, plus another €15m, Sporting Lisbon are believed to have upped the target to €70m and are standing firm on that number.

The pause in proceedings could spell big problems for both Mikel Arteta and Gyokeres, as the striker appears to be so keen on a move to Arsenal, he is considering skipping pre-season training with Lisbon on Friday.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta led the Arsenal team that flew to carry out talks with the Primeria Liga side, alongside Gyokeres’ agent Kenan Mert.

Portuguese outlet A Bola alleges that Mert has claimed that former sporting director Hugo Viana, who is now at Manchester City, offered Gyokeres a guarantee that he would be able to leave Sporting during the summer window.

The radio silence could pose big issues for the Gunners, with the deal looking increasingly difficult to get over the line.

The former Coventry City and Brighton striker has three years left on his contract with the Portuguese side; however, the striker seems to be doing everything possible to make sure he does not have to play the remaining years of his contract.

Arteta’s side has already signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £60m, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for £5m, and reportedly completed a £12m move for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

And while they may be struggling to sign Gyokeres, they are poised to make an offer on Chelsea's Noni Madueke as well as Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
