The Prime Minister hopes to establish what officials describe as a "one in, one out deal" with France.

French President Emmanuel Macron has delivered a speech to UK Parliament as a part of his state visit.

In his speech the French President praised the alliance between the UK and the French and pointed to their shared history.

He also called for a "full ceasefire in Gaza" with "no conditions."

Upon landing, Macron expressed appreciation for Sir Keir Starmer's approach to European relations, praising the Prime Minister's "willingness" to improve ties with the EU.

Sir Keir Starmer is seeking to utilise the French President's visit to secure agreement on a proposed migrant deal aimed at deterring small boat crossings in the Channel.
