I can’t deny that it’s been a truly dire week for conservative politics in this country, not to mention democracy itself.
A second Prime Minister in as many months deposed after a remoaner globalist coup.
A new leader imposed on the Tories without a vote being cast by members in a decision that has shattered grassroots members and could have repercussions for a generation.
And a high tax/big spending/low growth policy programme that, at times, feels like we’re seeing a Labour lite socialist agenda introduced by the stealth.
Today’s confirmation that the fracking ban will be reintroduced, despite our growing energy crisis, provided yet another reason to be concerned.
And you know I have been highly critical of Fishy Rishi Sunak, whose backstabbing and destabilising of British politics has seen him rewarded with the top job.
BUT his performance in PMQs today versus a tired Keir Starmer was storming.
A complete spanking that saw Sunak, who is widely regarded as a dull technocrat, draw first blood and increase Tory hopes that maybe, just maybe, all is not lost.
The attack lines come thick and fast, leaving Starmer floundering with nowhere to go.
Labour thought its best hope was to zero in on the reappointment of Superwoman Suella Braverman, despite a minor security breach last week, but in fact it gave Sunak the opportunity to contrast the Home Secretary’s tough on crime, tough on securing the borders approach with Labour’s unlimited immigration philosophy…

When Starmer pressed further on Braverman, it gave Sunak another opportunity to set out how the Tories intend to sort out Lawless Britain, with extra police to deal with burglaries, while Labour are sympathetic to the eco-terrorists like Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion currently causing carnage to hardworking Brits…
During their first exchange, Sunak also reminded Starmer of his support for Jeremy Corbyn to become Prime Minister…
Starmer’s script writers had been working overtime too…
Look, today was about retail politics and not policies.
And I still think the Conservatives under Sunak have an uphill climb to win the next election, compared to if Boris Johnson had returned to Number 10 with his 2019 landslide mandate behind him.
But at the very least, today’s performance will give the lifeless Tories an injection of confidence after a bruising three months.
After day one, it’s Sunak one, Starmer: Nil.
