James Middleton has opened up about his sister Kate's health journey, emphasising the importance of family support during difficult times.

The British entrepreneur shared insights into how his family coped with the Princess of Wales's health challenges during a new interview.


"What I think is that, as a family, you learn to see and process and understand things," Middleton told The Times.

He acknowledged that it was "a challenging time" not only for Kate and her immediate family but for their "bigger family" as well.

James emphasised that supporting family members is about being present on their terms.

"Being there for someone is such an important part, and it doesn't necessarily have to be on your terms, and it shouldn't be on your terms. It should be on their terms; unconditional," he explained.

The father of one described this approach as "the simplest way of really demonstrating love."

"You can do it in all these various fancy ways, but actually, you know, it is just generally being there," he added to The Times.

He revealed being diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and clinical depression in late 2017 after experiencing suicidal thoughts.

His treatment included cognitive behavioural therapy and medication to control an irregular heartbeat and help with sleep.

He also took antidepressants for a period, though he told The Times he is no longer on medication.

James revealed that both Princess Kate and their sister Pippa had accompanied him to therapy sessions.

"Having them there meant that I knew I was surrounded by people that truly understood what I was going through," he shared.

He credited Kate and Prince William for their mental health initiative Heads Together, which they launched with Prince Harry in 2016.

James also reflected on his personal challenges with mental health stigma.

"I think the biggest challenge was that I had my own stigma about mental health," he told the publication.
