The milestone commemorates Victory in Europe Day, when the Second World War ended for tens of millions of people on 8 May 1945.

In London, the Royal Family will be at the heart of commemorations with a tea party at Buckingham Palace for veterans and their families.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will host those who have served in the armed forces.

A military procession along The Mall and a flypast are also planned.

This anniversary holds particular significance as it may represent the last major opportunity to mark VE Day with people who were actually there.
