The mum is yet to receive a disabled badge according to her daughter

A disabled mother and her daughter have raised concerns online after they noticed their neighbour’s “strange and obsessive” behaviour over a parking space.

Raising the concerns on behalf of her mother on Reddit, the user explained how their neighbour “stalks” a specific space in front of their building and is always looking to snipe the spot once the mother and daughter leave the building.

The user who goes by the name Carolynnmae, described how the car park allocated to the building has more than enough space for everyone’s cars but that the neighbour wanted a specific place for his big SUV.

According to the Redditor, the situation is made more difficult as the mother has yet to receive a disabled parking badge.

“It's a big apartment complex, multiple buildings, and the parking lot is more than enough for everyone's cars,” the commenter said.

“Nothing is assigned so no one can actually claim a space. But I have one neighbor who is always stalking the lot and waiting for a front parking space, close to our building's front door (we live in the same building).

“There are plenty of other open spaces that would only be 10 feet more of a walk.

“My mom is handicapped but has not been able to get a handicapped marker yet.

“This neighbor watches out his window and will always come out and move his car closer whenever we leave from a front space.

“We've never interacted with him but it's a bit unsettling to know we're being watched as we come and go.”

Carolynnmae continued to explain how the neighbour is well aware of her mother’s disability and seems able-bodied.

She adds that the situation is made more bizarre as the neighbour in fact pays extra for a garage space that is closer to the building than the space used regularly by the mother.

“From the looks of it, he and his wife are middle-aged and able-bodied,” she said, “They have seen my disabled mother struggle to walk to the car.

“The crazy thing is these people also have a garage that is attached to the building (it costs extra and it's actually inside the building so it's the closest you can get) but he still parks their car in the lot and is obsessed with parking in a front space.

“Maybe they have a 2nd car stored in the garage but I don't know. He has a huge BMW SUV so I think he's just trying to show off, but he forgot to remove the used car dealership license plate frame.”

The Redditor finished the post by saying she understands her mother is not entitled to the space but still finds their behaviour “strange”.

She continued to give a recent example of his behaviour in which the mother left for only a few minutes but the space had been taken when she returned.

Carolynnmae said: “I know the world doesn't revolve around my mother's disability and we don't have a designated handicapped space yet, and that the rest of the spaces are first come first serve. But I'm a little concerned this neighbor has watched and waited for us to leave and then snipes the space.

“More than anything, he seems like a loser who has nothing better to do. But really.. why care so much to snipe a space like that?

“Just tonight, he was pulling into the lot when we were getting in our car to leave just for a few minutes. He parked far behind us, turned his lights off, and sat there and waited.

“We left, and came back less than 5 minutes later, and he was in the front space where we had just left.

“There's nothing that can be done and we're going to try and get a handicapped space for my mom, but this neighbor's behavior seems strange.”
