The girl was taken into the woods in the Droylsden area before being reunited with her family a short time later

Greater Manchester Police has launched an urgent appeal after a stranger took a young girl into the woods.

The force said the girl, 7, was taken by a man before being reunited with her family a short time later.


Detectives believe the girl was taken by a man on Warne Avenue in Droylsden into woods near the disused railway track towards Manchester Road.

GMP tweeted: "We're wanting to speak to this man after a girl (aged seven) was taken into the woods by a stranger in Droylsden earlier.

"Thankfully the girl was re-united with her family a short time later.

"We have a large number of officers in the area while extensive searches for the suspect take place.

"Seen him? Call 999. Contact us with any other info quoting 2270 of 17/08."

The first image was captured moments after the reported abduction, while the second is from around 30 minutes later, police said.

In the latter, the man appears to be wearing his jacket around his waist in Gainsborough Road as he heads towards The Snipe.
