The 52-year-old veteran suffered a fatal accident on the third and final lap of the course

A third competitor has died following a tragic accident during the final lap of the 2022 Isle of Man TT race.

52-year-old Davy Morgan made his 80th TT start at the Supersport race on Monday, but tragically crashed at the 27th Milestone.

Morgan, from Northern Ireland, became the third competitor to lose his life at this year's TT.

A statement issued by the race organisers announced with a "heavy heart" that Morgan had died.

The full statement read: "It is with a heavy heart that the Isle of Man TT Races can confirm the loss of Davy Morgan following an incident on the final lap of the first Supersport Race of the TT 2022.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to Davy’s partner Trudy, his family, loved ones, and friends."

Morgan was an extremely experienced competitor who had been racing paddocks across Ireland, the Isle of Man and at the Macau Grand Prix for almost 30 years.

The races around the Isle of Man have been run since 1907, and have been deemed among the most dangerous in motorsport.

French sidecar passenger Olivier Lavorel, 35, died last Saturday and British Supersport rider Mark Purslow, 29, on Wednesday.

There have been 263 fatalities to date in the TT races, Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT held on the island's public roads.

TT races have recently commenced again, following a two year absence due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Northern Irish competitor celebrated his greatest career achievements in 2005, 2012 and 2017.

Despite being associated with two-stroke bikes, he was also inclined to ride the larger capacity 600c and Superbike machines.

His best lap around the TT Mountain Course was in the 2010 Senior TT, and was set at an average speed of 125.134mph.
