BrewDog has launched a formal sale process and brought in restructuring specialists AlixPartners to seek potential buyers, in a move that may result in the Scottish craft beer maker being dismantled.
The company, known for popular brews including Punk IPA and Hazy Jane, confirmed the appointment today following multiple pub closures last year.
Around 220,000 individual investors who purchased shares through the brewer's 'Equity for Punks' crowdfunding initiative face the prospect of receiving minimal returns on their investments, which averaged approximately £400 per person.
The restructuring process comes after BrewDog recorded its fifth straight annual loss, posting a £37million pre-tax deficit in 2024, amid what the company describes as persistent economic headwinds affecting the hospitality sector.

James Watt, who departed the business in 2024 following 17 years leading the company he established, is reportedly exploring options to reacquire BrewDog with backing from financial partners.
Mr Watt continues to hold a significant shareholding alongside fellow founder Martin Dickie, who also exited the firm last year for personal reasons after the pair launched the brewery together in 2007.
Private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners owns a 21 per cent stake in BrewDog, having invested £213million in April 2017.
The Financial Times reports the company's network of 72 bars could draw interest from hospitality rivals including Mitchells & Butlers and Stonegate Group, while major brewing companies may pursue its four production facilities located in Scotland, the United States, Australia, and Germany.

High street store and bank branch closures are on the rise | PAIn October 2025, chief executive James Taylor informed staff that job reductions were necessary, telling employees the company needed to "right-size parts of the business" due to a "tough and fast-changing market".
The previous July saw BrewDog shut ten UK venues, including its flagship Aberdeen location. Further contraction came last month when BrewDog Distilling Co announced it would halt spirits production at its Ellon, Aberdeenshire headquarters within the coming months.
Brewdog plans to discontinue several drink brands, including Lonewolf Gin, Abstrakt Vodka, Duo Rum, Casa Rayos Tequila and Ron Bodega, though its Wonderland ready-to-drink cocktail range will remain in production.
A BrewDog spokesperson stated: "As with many businesses operating in a challenging economic climate and facing sustained macro headwinds, we regularly review our options with a focus on the long-term strength and sustainability of the company."

The company described the appointment of AlixPartners as "a deliberate and disciplined step" aimed at evaluating future investment opportunities while protecting the brand's long-term prospects.
Furthermore, the bar chain emphasised its standing as Britain's leading independent brewer and a global craft beer pioneer with a dedicated worldwide following, expressing confidence that this would generate considerable interest from potential investors.
The spokesperson added: "Our breweries, bars, and venues continue to operate as normal. We will not comment on any further speculation." The company currently employs approximately 1,400 people.
