As your complexion changes as you get older, plenty of experts have recommended tweaking your routine to complement your skin’s texture to keep your makeup looking its best.
But, with a bounty of beauty products at our fingertips, it can be confusing to know which ones are worth the time without spending hundreds on potentially catastrophic results.
Thankfully, founder of company Carmindy Beauty Cosmetics Carmindy Bowyer outlined the best products you should remove from your routine once you get into your 50s.
Hydration is a key takeaway from her guidance; as your skin ages, it's easier for your visage to dry out. Consequently, it's best to dodge products that complement a well-hydrated, fuller look.

1. Setting spray
Dubbed a "not-so-secret weapon" by L'Oreal, setting spray is like a "topcoat" to ensure your makeup stays in pristine condition throughout the day.
Generally, it's applied "at the end of your routine to keep foundation, blush, eyeshadow and lipstick in place", minimising transfer and fade.
"Setting spray is an alcoholic mist that’s supposed to set your makeup," Carmindy said, warning: "But when you have older mature skin this is just going to dry you out and suck all the hydration out of your skin."
Another celebrity makeup artist Bryony Blake previously told GB News: "There are some specific formulas that work well for mature skin.
"Lightweight serums or moisturisers are ideal for prepping the skin, especially if you’re dealing with dryness. They help makeup sit beautifully and last all day."

2. Long-wearing lipstick
"Don’t do it, because if it’s going to be long-wearing, which means it’s adhering to your lips and sucking every bit of moisture out of your lips," Carmindy explained.
Instead, use a "nice creamy, hydrated pigmented lipstick to ensure your lips’ health and hydration", the expert urged.
3. Waterproof mascara
Designed to withstand all weathers, waterproof mascara can be "almost impossible to get off at night", encouraging the user to pull, tug and rub at skin to remove it fully - harming your lashes.

4. Do not bake under your eyes
Recently becoming all the rage online, "baking" your makeup is the process of using concealer and loose powder to minimise fine lines and create a "flawless-looking finish", Charlotte Tilbury says.
But it can come at a price as you get older, Carmindy warned.
"That’s when you press all that heavy powder. You can get away with it when you’re 20 - but not when you’re over the age of 50," Carmindy said.
5. Using cream formula eyeshadows.
"Our lids do not look like they once used to," Carmindy admitted, adding: "So creams are just going to slip and slide and settle into fine lines and creases".
Instead, she favoured any product that offered "a very sheer lightweight watercolour style eyeshadow powder" to complement the eyes as well as your visage.
