Sunscreen is a product that has both health and anti-ageing benefits

While ageing is a wonderful thing, it's okay to want to look a few years younger. Many women opt for non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as filler or permanent makeup, while others get surgical procedures such as a facelift.

But it's also possible to shave a few years off your age with natural methods with a lifestyle influencer for mature women recommending slapping on the sunscreen.

Glory B runs a lifestyle channel for mature women and offers a top tip for "looking younger after 50".

Speaking on her YouTube channel GloryB-TV, the blogger said: "Always wear sunscreen on your face."

She recommended stocking up on physical sunscreen (also known as mineral sunscreen). These include zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Dermatologist Dr Sejal Shah told CeraVe: "Mineral sunscreens contain physical UV filters that block UV rays by creating a protective film on the skin’s surface to help reflect UV rays before they penetrate the skin."

The other kind of sunscreen is chemical sunscreen. Dr Shah explained that this "uses ingredients that absorb harmful UV rays and convert them into non-damaging heat through a chemical reaction - this heat is then released from the skin".

According to the expert, mineral sunscreens are not better than chemical ones - a sunscreen's efficacy depends on its formulation. The experts recommend going for a sunscreen that includes SPF 30 or higher and is both broad-spectrum and water-resistant.

Dr Shah advised: "It is also important to use the sunscreen properly, which means applying a sufficient amount and re-applying regularly."

Glory B continued: "I've been wearing it on my face every day, 365 days a year, rain, snow and shine for several years. And if you haven't started doing this, you need to start right away."

Skin Cancer Foundation stressed how crucial it is for people to wear sunscreen. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just a product for hot, sunny days or holidays abroad. The experts warned that it should be applied every day, 30 minutes before going outdoors, then reapplied every two hours.

The foundation said: "When used as directed, sunscreen can decrease your risk of skin cancers and skin precancers."

The magic product can also "help prevent premature skin ageing caused by the sun, including wrinkles, sagging and age spots".

Glory B also told women over 50 they can look younger by whitening their teeth. This can be done at home or in a dental practice.

Bupa UK advised that those who want to have their teeth whitened will need to be 18 or over. Your teeth and gums must be healthy, which your dentist will check during your initial consultation.

"It’s best to delay having your teeth whitened if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding because it’s not clear whether the whitening products can affect the baby, Bupa advised.

"Be aware that teeth whitening won’t lighten the colour of any crowns, veneers, bridges or dentures."
